Five Myths of Prenatal Massage

1.  Massage can cause a Miscarriage-------FALSE----
Truth  IS-------Abdominal work would have to be extremely deep and rough to dislodge the placenta.  About 90% of miscarriages occur within the first 8wks of pregnancy; which has nothing to do with whether the mom received a massage or not

2.  Massage is Contraindicated (should not be performed) during the 1st Trimester-----FALSE-----
Truth IS-------Reasoning most miscarriages occur in the 1st Trimester Most Women suffer from nausea/vomiting, therefore, they would not receive Massage due to the 'morning sickness'----not because massage will cause a miscarriage.

3.  Abdomen should never be Massaged during the 1st Trimester-----FALSE----
Truth  IS-----Massage will not dislodge the placenta

4.  Feet and Hands should be Massaged during Pregnancy-----FALSE----
Truth IS------massage on specific acupuncture points on the feet, lower legs, and hands is contraindicated---deep sustained pressure must be avoided.  Hands/ Feet can be massaged, just not to focus on acupuncture points.

5.  Pregnant women should lie only on her LEFT side, whether in bed or on the massage table.---FALSE--
Truth IS-----it is not a requirement to lie only on the left side. Right side lying is appropriate for moms with heartburn/or indigestion.
